What the statutes mean

If you require your staff to wear uniforms or have policies concerning your employee’s hair styles, you must tell a job applicant about your policies during the interview or at the same time you offer them a job.

Practical advice

This law can actually save you quite a bit of grief. Chiropractors have a wide range of standards when it comes to what their employees are allowed to wear to work. The expectation for your chiropractic office may be very different than a store at the shopping mall. Do not be fooled by what the person wears to the interview. While most people dress professionally for an interview, they need to be told what is appropriate for day to day work.

Statute excerpt

103.14 Grooming requirement; notification. Each employer shall, at the time of hiring, notify each employee about any hairstyle, facial hair or clothing requirement.
